Stop Looking at the Clock!

Courtyard by Marriott
McDonough, GA
February 10, 2013

We were in the Atlanta, GA area for the Abilities Expo 2013. I promised Egypt we could go for a long swim before checking out since we got to the hotel too late to swim on Saturday night. We jumped in the pool at 8:30am and I was thinking an hour would be long enough since I was in the pool alone with both girls. Egypt did surprise me by swimming unassisted for the first time ever and by the end of the hour, Egypt could swim across the pool. Starting at 9:25am, the following conversation took place:

Dad, "5 more minutes Egypt and we have to get out of the pool"

Egypt, "OK"

Dad, "4 more minutes"

Egypt, "OK"

Dad, "3 more minutes"

Egypt, "OK"

Dad, "2 more minutes"

Egypt, "OK"

Dad, "you're going to get out like a big girl when it's time"?

Egypt, "Yes"

Dad, "1 more minute Egypt"

Egypt, "DAD, STOP looking at the clock"!!!!

I liked her thinking and gave her 2 minutes before telling her it was time and she exited the pool without a word of protest.

Egypt Attempts a Rock Wall

Abilities Expo
Atlanta, GA
February 9, 2013

Egypt wanted her chance to try the rock wall after watching Kellisa. Egypt reached two hand holds and got both feet off the ground and then decided that she was finished.

Just Egypt

I'm going to use the blog to capture moments of Egypt's life for two reasons. First, I'm afraid I will forget about some of these over time and they will be lost forever. Second, I hope Egypt will someday read these and realize they are a glimpse into her childhood.

If you ask Egypt her name, she will most likely say: "Egypt Laurel Kain". If she answers, "Egypt", I will say, "Egypt who" and she will always respond, "Egypt Laurel Kain".

However, if I call Egypt by her first, middle and last names for any reason, she will respond that her name is: "just Egypt". If I call her "sweetie, nutball, cutie, daughter, etc.", I'm more than likely to hear: "my name is just Egypt".

My response is to call Egypt, "Just Egypt" and she will respond, "no, I'm Just Egypt". At which point I agree and say, "OK, Just Egypt". We can go around and around. Sometimes Egypt gets a good giggle out of our routine and others she can get quite frustrated.

I will also use these entries to add a picture that might not fit in any other posts, again to capture a part of Egypt's childhood.
