Learning for Life Camporee (October 16 and 17, 2010)

Kellisa had the opportunity to attend the 2010 Learning For Life, Camporee at Camp Echockotee in Orange Park, FL. It was a fun-filled weekend event hosted by volunteers, mostly Boy Scouts, from all over NE Florida.

The campsites were hike-in and both Kellisa and I were glad to see a swarm of Boy Scouts approach the car to help carry the gear to our site. They even set-up the campsite while we just watched.

Kellisa enjoyed the many activity booths with the Boy Scout volunteers:

Local wildlife:

A boat ride on Doctors Lake:

Reading a Hannah Montana book in the tent after dinner:

Attending the Camp Fire Program:

Haven Horse Ranch (09.18.10)

Kellisa spent the day riding a horse. Horse back riding has many therapeutic benefits for kids like Kellisa. It helps stretch the leg muscles and it works to improve balance. It has also been noted that kids sometimes show improvements in speech because they want to be able to give commands to the horses. Since Kellisa enjoyed the day, we are hoping to make horse riding a regular activity.
