Highpoints:
Chris- 12
Kellisa- 5
Due to fog, our drive from the Grayson Highlands, VA to the Highpoint of Kentucky took a lot longer than planned. Before visiting Black Mountain, you need to sign a waiver and submit it to the coal company that owns the mountain top. One of the dangers you face is the road collapsing into a coal mine. If you die from the road collapsing or any other reason really, your surviving family cannot sue the coal company since you signed the waiver.
Nearing the end of the paved road, it looks like you will be driving off the mountain:
Heading towards the summit, on a dirt road in the fog:
Just beyond the bend in the picture below, the road is gated. I parked the Pilot and headed up the muddy road pushing Kellisa. It felt like we were the only people for miles and we probably were. When this deep in the woods, I would rather stumble upon a bear than another person.
